Cmovie - Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen (2010)

Synopsis

A continuation of the 1995 television series Fist of Fury, Donnie Yen reprises his role as Chen Zhen, a role made famous by Bruce Lee in "Fist Of Fury" (1972). The film is set seven years after the apparent death of Chen Zhen, who was shot after discovering who was responsible for his teacher's death in Japanese-occupied Shanghai. A mysterious stranger arrives from overseas and befriends a local mafia boss. That man is a disguised Chen Zhen, who intends to infiltrate the mob when they form an alliance with the Japanese. Disguising himself as a caped fighter by night, Chen intends to take out everyone involved as well as get his hands on an assassination list prepared by the Japanese.

I freaking looooooooove Donnie Yen!!
This man is so underrated.
He is the main reason for my love of the movie.
While some people may compare the fighting style to Ip Man/Ip Man 2. What do you expect????
Chen Zen is Bruce Lee!

Some people are bashing this movie saying that Donnie Yen is too old or he doesn't fit the role or it's too much like Ip Man. Whatever man. Some people don't know how to separate the movie from the actor.

Or maybe I'm a loyal fan. I love kick-ass guys. No wonder I love South Indian films where one guy takes it all. There's a pattern there, right? Uh-hum.

I was extremely ecstatic when I found out the heroine is Shu Qi. She's my favorite HK actress. She reminds me of the the Asian Angelina Jolie, an actress who can act, look sexy and kickass.

I am a huuuuuuge Bruce Lee fan so I am biase on this since Donnie Yen and Shu Qi are both in the movie.
Take it or leave it but I love the movie.

In addition, adding the superhero made me love it more. Go Kato! And on top of that, the outfit that Donnie wears at the end, presenting a bit of Bruce Lee....and pulling out the nunchucks! This made my day!

Oh yeah, not to mention that Anthony Wong is also in the movie. That man is awesome!

Cmovie - Dragon Tiger Gate (2006)

Synopsis - Heroic Cinema
Photos - Google

Tiger Wong is a highly skilled martial artist with a strong sense of justice. While eating at a floating restaurant, he chances upon a bully. Unable to stand by and watch him terrorize the victims he defeats the bully using his special move - Dragon Slaying Leg Eighteen. At the same time, he unwittingly grabs a gold medal. It turns out that this gold medal is the Lousha Death Plaque given by the leader of the Lousha Gate, Shibumi. Whoever owns the gold medal has the power to demand the full cooperation of Lousha Gate. Tiger, unaware of the medal's powers, is ambushed by the gang during his celebrations. As fate has it, he is saved by Dragon Wong, the bodyguard of one of the gangsters, who is sent to retrieve the medal.

Honestly, I saw this a few years ago and did *not* like it. I think my expectations were too high since I'm a huge Donnie Yen fan and just finish watching SPL. I wanted to see more awesome maritial arts.

After learning that Dragon Tiger Gate was adapted from a manhua (Chinese version of manga) called Oriental Heroes, I was more interested. However, it was really after realizing that Donnie Yen was the fight choreographer and Wilson Yip was the director that made me give it a second chance. And oh yeah, my crush on Nicholas Tse!

So when I finally got a hold of the dvd (again), I re-watched with a clear mind.

Was this the same movie that I disliked several years ago? It was good! The storyline could've been better because you could easily get confused. But the action scenes are very Stephen Chow-like at times.

I didn't mind Donnie or Nicholas's hairstyles. Donnie looks badass with it though. But Shawn's hairstyle made me cringe!! It looked like a mop on top of his head, lol.

I am glad I re-watched. Not every movie out there is meant for an Oscar. Some are just here to entertain. The more movies I watch, the more open-minded I have become.

Don't shoot down Dragon Tiger Gate either!

Cmovie - Sha Po Lang (2005) or also known as SPL

Photos & Synopsis - Wu Jing

Sha Po Lang refers to three stars, each representing a person's personality and fate, in Chinese astrology - Qi Sha, Po Jun and Tan Lang, or Killing, Obliteration and Avarice.

A crimelord (Sammo Hung) covers his tracks so well that he always gets away from all crimes he does, assisted by four fast-talking English lawyers. A professional assassin (Wu Jing), who never fails on his assignment, appearing out of nowhere. Four policemen so eager to nab the crimelord that they will stop at nothing, insofar as taking justice into their own hands. Standing in their ways is a new police inspector (Donnie Yen) who goes strictly by the book. Thus begins an intricately woven high-octane action thriller that is full of complications, of explosive actions, exhilarating car chases, intense shootouts and realistic fist to fist combats from the award-winning screenwriters Szeto Kam-Yuen and Wu Wei Lun.

One of my favorite Hong Kong flicks ever! I love how the story is told - very fast paced and keeps me wanting to see what is going to happen next. When it first hit dvd, I remember watching it, my hubby was going to the store but ended up staying watching the whole movie with me! He was so invested in the movie from the beginning that he didn't want to miss out any scenes. That's how good this movie is!

Donnie Yen is the most underrated martial artist ever!!! More people should know about him! The guy is so calm but kicks ass! I've seen him in the Iron Monkey but still not enough Donnie!

The slick martial art was old school with no special effects, that's what made me love it even more. I miss the old school style but still love what is coming out. Ahem, Stephen Chow movies!

I've had success in recommending this film to all my friends and family. Each one of them loved it. However, I know that someone out there will dislike this film. It's okay. I loved it. That's all that matters.
