Cmovie - Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen (2010)

Synopsis

A continuation of the 1995 television series Fist of Fury, Donnie Yen reprises his role as Chen Zhen, a role made famous by Bruce Lee in "Fist Of Fury" (1972). The film is set seven years after the apparent death of Chen Zhen, who was shot after discovering who was responsible for his teacher's death in Japanese-occupied Shanghai. A mysterious stranger arrives from overseas and befriends a local mafia boss. That man is a disguised Chen Zhen, who intends to infiltrate the mob when they form an alliance with the Japanese. Disguising himself as a caped fighter by night, Chen intends to take out everyone involved as well as get his hands on an assassination list prepared by the Japanese.



I freaking looooooooove Donnie Yen!!
This man is so underrated.
He is the main reason for my love of the movie.
While some people may compare the fighting style to Ip Man/Ip Man 2. What do you expect????
Chen Zen is Bruce Lee!

Some people are bashing this movie saying that Donnie Yen is too old or he doesn't fit the role or it's too much like Ip Man. Whatever man. Some people don't know how to separate the movie from the actor.

Or maybe I'm a loyal fan. I love kick-ass guys. No wonder I love South Indian films where one guy takes it all. There's a pattern there, right? Uh-hum.



I was extremely ecstatic when I found out the heroine is Shu Qi. She's my favorite HK actress. She reminds me of the the Asian Angelina Jolie, an actress who can act, look sexy and kickass.

I am a huuuuuuge Bruce Lee fan so I am biase on this since Donnie Yen and Shu Qi are both in the movie.
Take it or leave it but I love the movie.



In addition, adding the superhero made me love it more. Go Kato! And on top of that, the outfit that Donnie wears at the end, presenting a bit of Bruce Lee....and pulling out the nunchucks! This made my day!



Oh yeah, not to mention that Anthony Wong is also in the movie. That man is awesome!

Blood Brothers is set in 1930s Shanghai, a flourishing modern-day Babylon, replete with warlords, politicians, wealthy industrialists, courtesans and gangsters. Three innocent young brothers, Kang (Liu Ye, Curse of the Golden Flower ), Fung (Daniel Wu, Around the World in 80 Days ) and Xiao Hu (Tony Yang), arrive in this seeming paradise in search of a better life. Enticed by the rich and powerful world of organized crime, the three brothers start down a path of no return: they are hired to do the bidding for one of the city s largest mob syndicate. When Fung begins an affair with the mob boss girlfriend, beauty Lulu (Shu Qi, Transporter), and life takes a difficult turn for all three brothers when the forbidden love affair is exposed. Friends turn against friends, brother against brother. The days of innocence have passed; the three brothers must stand up as men and make their choices.



I looooved the movie!! Storyline was really good. I love the art direction with the 1930s Shanghai look. The direction couldn've been better since I was a bit confused at first.

Acting is excellent from everyone. Shu Qi is my fave actress, and Daniel Wu is slowly becoming one of mines!

Cmovie - If You Are the One (2008)

Keeping some of Feng's recent penchant for grandeur, If You Are the One features sweeping photography and beautiful location shoots in China and Japan, not to mention a star-studded supporting cast that includes Taiwan beauty Vivian Hsu (The Knot), Hong Kong actor Alex Fong Chung Sun (One Nite in Mongkok), and Mainland stars Fan Wei (Set Off) and Hu Ke (Royal Tramp).

Nouveau riche entrepreneur Qin Fen (Ge You) turned into an overnight millionaire after selling off an unlikely invention. Now all he needs is someone to share the wealth with. With his below-average looks and above-average wallet, Qin Fen sets out to find a wife through online personal ads, and ends up meeting a long lineup of strange candidates. But he holds a torch for only one: Smiley (Shu Qi), a gorgeous flight attendant with a married lover (Alex Fong) and tons of emotional baggage.



When you mix an ugly duckling with a smoking-hot girl, what do you get?



Ge You isn't the most attractive guy to look at. But he sure is funny! He plays the older guy looking for a mate.



Shu Qi is hot! I'm a fan of hers and try to watch her movies if given the chance. She plays a flight attendant who is in love with a married guy. She tries to move on with her life and look for someone else.



When both are trying to find mates, they end up finding each other through personal ads.



The beginning had me entertained but fell apart in the second half. I felt it was dragging. Most Hong Kong movies fall right at the 1 hour and a half mark. But with this movie, it was right at 2 hours. I felt that 30 mins of it could have been cut off.



Overall, not a bad movie, but it isn't the best either. Watch for Shu Qi.

Cmovie - Seoul Raiders (2005)

Seoul Raiders is the sequel to director Jingle Ma's hugely successful blockbuster Tokyo Raiders. Tony Leung reprises his role as Japanese special agent Lam, this time on an intricate search for a pair of "Avenger" plates used for the making of counterfeit U.S. currency. During the hunt, he comes across foxy lady JJ (Shu Qi), and US Embassy staff member Owen (Richie Ren), who manages to con the plates out of Lam and flee to Korea. Lam and JJ immediately follow Owen to Korea, only to be confronted by the legendary kingpin known as Polar Bear, the head of the largest counterfeit organization in Asia...



I saw the prequel Toyko Raiders a year ago and found it entertaining. Plus having one of the sexiest Asian actress, Shu Qi, to star in the sequel is a plus! Instead of Japan being the destination, this time it's Korea! Yah!



Movie started off very well with lots of chasing and fighting, then all of a sudden - the story got dull.



Movie started to turn a bit too glamorous and focused on the hot assistant girls. Instead of them showing more of their martial arts skill, they were just being there to look good.



Although I just complained about them, I do like the fact that these girls can still look hot and be tough.



Glad Shu Qi got to kick some a$$ and look good. I love her flexible moves. She's one of my fave actresses in the Hong Kong industry.



Plus there were quite a bit of comedic moments, which was good but then I got bored easily.



Overall a disappointment, but if you're a Tony Leung or Shu Qi fan, it may be worth it. Just for them.
